Let's learn the tips for nude drawing and give it a try!

Hello!

This time, we will practice nude drawing, which is a little difficult even for portraits.

However, once you get the hang of it, even beginners will be able to draw it.

First, there are only three tips for the basic version!

① Look closely at the model

You need to prepare yourself mentally, but take a deep breath, forget about any embarrassment, and look closely at the model!

It's the most familiar motif, but it's something you may think you understand, but you don't.

Anyway, I think the basics of drawing are to look closely at the motif and burn it into your mind.

Create an attitude of facing it as art.

② Draw from the head down

Draw in order from the head, body, and feet.

At first, it's easy to make the head look big, so try to keep in mind a 7-8 head to body ratio.

Add the eyes, nose, mouth, and ears later. First, try to express the overall outline.

I think it's easier to draw from the back than from the front at first.

③ Draw the body lines in one go

This is the trick that requires the most practice.

Relax your wrists and draw the lines for each part of the body, arms, legs, etc. in one go.

It may not be easy at first, but try to draw a line with a light touch and a long slide.

It's okay if you make mistakes, so erase it with an eraser and try again and again.

Why draw the line in one go?

That's because jagged lines on the human body look very bad.

In costume drawing, jagged or uneven lines are acceptable as they express wrinkles or twists in the costume, but with a nude body, it is very important to express a single line.

In modern art, jagged lines are acceptable, but this time we are only covering the basics of nude drawing, so please bear with us.

Go ahead and try drawing it several times, even if you make mistakes.

You will start to notice things as you draw, so set aside 10 to 15 minutes for each pose and practice!!

Realizations through nude drawing and changes in the artistic life

Insights Through Nude Sketching: How Art Transformed My Inner World

One day, I tried sketching a nude model using a pen—a medium you can’t erase.

I hesitated before making the first stroke, but once I committed and drew a bold line, it felt slightly off.

I paused, uncertain.

Was this a mistake?

Should I start over with a new sheet of paper?

But the line I drew—based on careful observation and a moment of true resolve—

wasn’t something I could toss aside so easily.

I sat there, thinking.

That line wasn’t just a mark on paper.

It was a reflection of my state of mind at that moment.

Then it hit me: Why not connect the lines?

Instead of erasing or giving up, I chose to continue drawing, building upon that original line.

I focused on making it part of the whole.

And suddenly, something unexpected happened.

A completely new form of expression began to emerge—something different from anything I’d created before.

The original line, once uncertain, started to shine in a new light.

The new strokes I added gave it strength, depth, and meaning.

And then I realized—

Isn’t life the same way?

The lines we’ve already drawn—our past experiences—can’t be erased.

But if we stop fearing mistakes, embrace what we’ve done, and connect each experience with intention,

we can break out of our shell and achieve something greater—something truly expressive.

We can’t go back in time, so why waste it on regret?

Instead, let’s connect the dots with a positive mindset, and use every experience to our advantage.

Any experience, no matter what it is, has value if we let it live through us.

And sometimes, that opens the door to unexpected, artistic new worlds—

and even to a new life.

So what if we’re different from others?

Let’s live with confidence in our uniqueness and diversity.

That’s where true art—and true life—begins.
